Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a medical treatment that uses a photosensitizing drug in combination with a light source to activate the drug. This results in an activated oxygen molecule that can destroy nearby cells. Photodynamic therapy is an effective solution for treating precancerous cells and certain types of other cancer cells.
Photodynamic Therapy was originally designed and is still used for superficial cancer treatment. However, recent advancement in the field of skin care and acne treatment has led to an expansion in the use of PDT.
Photodynamic Therapy is an effective solution for clear skin and acne treatment. Patients are advised to avoid sun for 36 hours after the treatment. Patients might experience moderate exfoliation, pink skin, and skin tightness for about 2-3 days. Dr. Chang is a board certified internal medicine physician and is highly experienced in performing Photodynamic therapy.
